The cardiovascular system consists of
heart, blood, veins
4 functions
circulate blood, remove CO2 from cells, transport oxygen and nutrients, maintain stable body temp
carries blood AWAY from heart
arteries
carries blood TO the heart
veins
connects arteries and veins to exchange gases and nutrients
Capillaries
why are artery walls thick and elastic
to facilitate more blood + create force/ pressure to overcome gravity
why do veins have valves
to prevent backflow
why are vein walls thinner
skeletal muscles contract to move blood back to the heart, less blood volume, gravity does some work
why are capilarries 1 cell thick with no elasticity?
to enable fast exhange of gases + nutrients between the body and blood cells

1st location/s + blood type
superior/ inferior vena cava + deoxygenated

2nd location + blood type + what it goes through
right atrium + deoxygenated + valve

3rd location + blood type + what it goes through
right ventricle + deoxygenated + valve

4th location + blood type/s + where it goes to
pulmonary artery + both + lungs

5th location + blood type + where it comes from
pulmonary veins + oxygenated + lungs

6th location + blood type + where it goes through
left atrium + oxygenated + vein

7th location + blood type + where it goes to
left ventricle + oxygenated + valve

8th location + blood type
aorta + oxygenated blood

seperates the sides of the heart
septum
