percent decrease

How much a quantity goes down, expressed as a percentage of the starting amount. For example, a store with 6464 hats on Friday and 4848 hats on Saturday had a decrease of 1616, which is a 25%25\% decrease because 1616 is 25%25\% of 6464.

2
New cards

percent error

A way to describe the difference between a desired value and the actual value, expressed as a percent of the desired value. For example, if a box supposed to have 150150 folders only has 147147, the error is 33 folders, and the percent error is 2%2\% because 3150=0.02=2%\frac{3}{150} = 0.02 = 2\%.

3
New cards

percent increase

How much a quantity goes up, expressed as a percentage of the starting amount. For example, if an amount goes from 5050 to 5656, the increase of 66 is a 12%12\% increase because 650=0.12=12%\frac{6}{50} = 0.12 = 12\%.

4
New cards

repeating decimal

A decimal with one or more digits (not all zeros) that repeat forever. It can be written using bar notation over the repeating digits or with ellipses (…) at the end. For example, 13\frac{1}{3} is 0.33333...0.33333... and 2522\frac{25}{22} is 1.1363636...1.1363636...

5
New cards

terminating decimal

A decimal with a finite number of non-zero digits after the decimal point. Examples include 0.080.08, 1.51.5, and 0.25630.2563. A repeating decimal where the repeating digits are all zeros is also called a terminating decimal.
