What is the order of classification?
Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species
What’s the nemonic for the order of classification?
KING PHILIP CAME OVER FOR GRAN’S SPAGHETTI
Name the five kingdoms?
Animals, plants, fungi, protoctists, and prokaryotes
Features of mammals
Fur/hair, placenta, feed young on milk from mammary glands, external ears visible
Features of fish
Loose, wet scales on skin, gills, lay shell-less eggs in water
Features of amphibians
Smooth moist skin, larvae live in water and have gills, cold blooded, adults live on land and have lungs
Features of reptiles
Dry fixed scales on skin, lay eggs with rubbery shells on land
Features of birds
Skin covered in feathers, have 2 legs and 2 wings instead of forelimbs, have a beak, lay eggs with hard shells on land, lay eggs with hard shells on land.
Name the arthropods
Myriapods, insects, crustaceans, arachnids
Name features of arachnids
2 part body, 4 pairs of jointed legs, no antennae
Name features of myriapods
Many segments with a pair of jointed legs on each, a pair of antennae
Name features of crustaceans
More than 4 pairs of jointed legs, chalky exoskeleton formed form calcium, breathe through gills, 2 pairs of antenna
Features of protoctists
most are unicellular some multicellular, all have a nucleus, some may have cell walls and chloroplasts, some protoctists photosynthesise and some feed on organic substances
Features of prokaryotes
Often unicellular with cell walls with no nucleus
Ferns
Have leaves called fronds, reproduce through spores on underside of fronds
Flowering plants
Reproducte through flowers and seeds, can be divided into 2 groups monocotyledons and dicotyledons
Features of monocotyledons
Contain petals in multiples of 3, have parallel leaf veins, narrow and grass like leaves
Features of dicotyledons
Contain petals in multiples of 5, have reticulated leaf veins, broader leaves
Movement
an action by an organism or part of an organism causing a change of position or place
Respiration
the chemical reactions that break down nutrient molecules in living cells to release energy for metabolism
Sensitivity
the ability to detect or sense stimuli in the internal or external environment and to make appropriate responses
Growth
a permanent increase in size and dry mass by an increase in cell number or cell size or both
Reproduction
the processes that make more of the same kind of organism
Excretion
the removal from organisms of toxic materials, the waste products of metabolism (chemical reactions in cells including respiration) and substances in excess of requirements
Nutrition
the taking in of materials for energy, growth and development
Name the features of insects
3 part body, 3 pairs of jointed legs, 2 pairs of wings, and 1 pair of antennae
