Rectus Femoris
Origin: Anterior Inferior Iliac Spine; Insertion: Tibial Tuberosity; Function: Flexes the hip and extends the knee.
Vastus Medialis
Origin: Medial Lip of Linea Aspera; Insertion: Tibial Tuberosity; Function: Extends the knee.
Biceps Femoris
Origin: Ischial Tuberosity (long head), Lateral Lip of Linea Aspera (short head); Insertion: Head of Fibula; Function: Flexes the knee and laterally rotates the thigh.
Semitendinosus
Origin: Ischial Tuberosity; Insertion: Proximal, Medial Shaft of the Tibia; Function: Flexes the knee and extends the hip.
Semimembranosus
Origin: Ischial Tuberosity; Insertion: Posterior Aspect of Medial Condyle of Tibia; Function: Flexes the knee and extends the hip.
Gluteus Maximus
Origin: Coccyx, Edge of Sacrum, Posterior Iliac Crest; Insertion: Iliotibial Tract and Gluteal Tuberosity; Function: Extends and laterally rotates the hip.
Gluteus Medius
Origin: Gluteal surface of ilium; Insertion: Lateral aspect of greater trochanter; Function: Abducts and medially rotates the hip.
Gluteus Minimus
Origin: Gluteal surface of ilium; Insertion: Anterior aspect of the greater trochanter; Function: Abducts and medially rotates the hip.
Adductor Group
Includes Adductor Magnus, Adductor Longus, Adductor Brevis, Gracilis, and Pectineus; Function: Adduct and medially rotate the hip.
Piriformis
Origin: Anterior surface of the sacrum; Insertion: Greater Trochanter; Function: Laterally rotates the hip.
Iliacus
Origin: Iliac Fossa; Insertion: Lesser trochanter of femur; Function: Flexes the hip.
Psoas Major
Origin: Bodies and transverse processes of lumbar vertebrae; Insertion: Lesser trochanter; Function: Flexes the hip and lumbar spine.
Tensor Fasciae Latae
Origin: Iliac Crest; Insertion: Iliotibial Tract; Function: Flexes, abducts, and medially rotates the hip.
