2009 Green Movement

A candidate had apparently won by a landslide but the numbers didnt make sense. In some areas more people voted than the actual amount of people living in that area. This upset many people, so they took the streets of iran wearing green (the color of the party of the candidate that lost) and chanted “wheres my vote?” One of the first protests that was organized on social media, which shows that despite having an authoritarian government that controls and restricts media, it’s still possible to revolt. This decreased the legitimacy because the government fought back violently and sent

the militia to stop the protests.

Iranian revolution

People were unhappy with the shah (king) because they felt as if he was a puppet of the us/west. So, they overthrew him and replaced him with islamic republic. Worlds first modern theocracy.

2022 womens protests

After a women was killed in custody of the police, many women took to the streets and protested. Social cleavage between the conservative/religious older generation and the younger/liberal generation.
