"Shall I ever see them again?" she wondered
She wondered if she would ever see them again.

She refused to do it.
"It's not true, I didn't steal it," he said
He denied stealing it.
"You should see a doctor," she said
She advised me to see a doctor.
"Don't go near the dog," he said
He warned me against going near the dog.
"I'll help you with the bags," he said
He offered to help me with the bags.
"Let's go to the cinema," she said
She suggested going to the cinema.
"The car is broken," he explained to me
He explained to me that the car was broken.
"Can I have a coffee, please?" he asked
He asked for a coffee.
"Give me the money!" he demanded
He demanded the money from me.
"You may stay here," he said (permission)
He said I might stay there.
"I didn't need to go," he said
He said he hadn't needed to go.
"I didn't have to go," he said
He said he hadn't had to go.
"If I were there I would vote for you," she said
She said if she were there she would vote for me.
"Welcome to Wales!" the notice read
The notice welcomed us to Wales.
"Liar!" he said
He called me a liar.
