Interleukin 1 (IL-1)
Produced by: macrophages
Proliferation of: helper T cells, acts on hypothalamus to cause fever
define cytokine
Small Protein hormones that either inhibit or stimulate normal cell functions
Interleukin 2
Secreted by: Helper, T cells
Costimulates proliferation of: helper T cells, cytotoxic T cells, B cells: activate NK cells
Interleukin 3
Produced by: helper T cells
Costimulate B cells, cause plasma cells to secrete IgE antibodies, promotes growth of T cells
Interleukin 5
Produced by: some helper T cells and mast cells
Costimulate B cells, Cause plasma cells to secrete IgA
Interleukin 6
Produced by: helper T cells
Enhance proliferation of B cells, B cell differentiation into plasma cells, and secretion of antibodies by plasma cells
Tumor necrosis factor TNF
Produced by: macrophages
Stimulate accumulation of neutrophils and macrophages site of information
Interferons IFN
Produced by: virus-infected cells
Inhibit Viral replication; Activate cytotoxic T cells & NK cells, inhibit cell division, suppress formation of tumors
Macrophage migration inhibiting factor
Produced by: cytotoxic T cells
Prevent macrophages from leaving site of infection
Define cytokines
Small protein hormones that stimulate or inhibit normal cell functions
