Pseudomonas aeruginosa
pneumonia, burn/wound infections. This one has a lot of qualities: (resistant to antibiotics, elastase, green pigment production) acquired at hospitals. Another key thing is to know it can cause both skin and respiratory infections.
Chlamydia trachomatis
chlamydia (STI), trachoma, PID. This one is the leading cause of preventable blindness
Helicobacter pylori
when you see this one, think stomach ulcers, gastritis. Think of that scientist who drank the bacteria to prove it causes stomach ulcers! Urease activity, can neutralize stomach acid to survive.
Neisseria gonorrhoeae
gonorrhea, PID, neonatal conjunctivitis. It's diplococci
Neisseria meningitidis
bacterial meningitis, meningococcemia (petechial rash). It's diplococci
Treponema pallidum
syphilis. Know that it's spirochete in shape. Know that syphilis has three stages, the tertiary (third stage) is when gummas form.
Escherichia coli
UTIs, traveler's diarrhea, HUS
Shigella flexneri
bloody diarrhea, dysentery, HUS
Salmonella enterica
food poisoning, typhoid fever
Vibrio cholerae
cholera (rice-water stools)
