Ibuprofen
An analgesic used for mild pain, has antipyretic and anti-inflammatory properties.
Acetaminophen
An analgesic effective for mild pain and fever, maximum dose of 4g/day, does not have anti-inflammatory effects.
Prednisone
A glucocorticoid used for anti-inflammatory purposes and immunosuppression.
Epinephrine
Used in emergency treatment of anaphylaxis by stimulating beta 2 receptors to cause bronchodilation.
1st Generation Antihistamines
Include promethazine, dimenhydrinate, and diphenhydramine; can cause drowsiness.
Penicillin
An antibiotic used for gram positive and gram negative bacteria, common drug allergy.
Cephalosporins
Broad-spectrum antibiotics; monitor for anaphylactic reactions and renal function.
Vancomycin
An antibiotic used for severe infections like MRSA, can cause red man syndrome with rapid infusion.
Fluoroquinolones
Broad spectrum antibiotics monitored for tendon pain and swelling, increased risk of C. diff.
Tetracyclines
Antibiotics used for gram positive and negative bacteria, should not be taken with calcium or iron.
Aminoglycosides
Narrow spectrum antibiotics used for gram negative bacteria; risk of ototoxicity and nephrotoxicity.
Macrolides
Broad spectrum antibiotics similar to penicillin; may cause dysrhythmias and GI distress.
