Population

the number of people living in a particular geographical areas

Population explosion

the rapid growth of world population is known as population explosion. There was a sudden increase of world population is 1950s

Population density

the average number of people in a given area per square kilometer. Or the total number of people living in a square kilometer of land.

birth rate

the number of births per 1000 people in a year

death rate

the number of deaths per 1000 people in a year

natural increase

* is the number of extra people (birth rate - death rate)


* usually given as a percentage

infant mortality rate

the annual number of deaths per infants less than one years old per 1000 live births

life expectany

the number of years that an individual is excpected to live as a determined by statistics

child mortality rate

the number of deaths in children under the age of 5 per 1000 children

total feritility rate

the average number of births per 1000 woman of childbearing age

crude death rate

the number of deaths per 1000 people of the population (basically death rate)

migration

* the movement of people either within a country or between countries
* can be permanent, temporary, seasonal or daily

international migration

movement of people to another country

migrants looking for a better quality of life or personal freedom
