TOPIC : Urban stress and the need for green spaces in Cape Town
This research will focus on how the lack of green spaces in urban areas of Cape Town affects mental health and well being. It will also explore the importance of adding parks, trees, and green infrastructure to create healthier urban environments.
STEP 2 : PROBLEM STATEMENT
Context - Evidence - Gap - Focus
Rapid urbanization in cape town has reduced access to green spaces in many communities. Dense buildings, traffic congestion, noise and pollution all contribute to declining health and mental health challenges in Cape Town residents.
Previous studies show that green spaces can help reduce stress improve mood and encourage social interaction between people in urban environments.
However, there is unfortunately limited research and case studies on integrating green infrastructure in cape town, and how the lack of green spaces specifically affects mental well being in high urban areas due to historic planning.
This study investigates the impact the impact of green spaces on urban stress and wellbeing in cape Town.
STEP 3 : GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
The goal of this research is to examine and help understand the relationship between lack of green spaces and mental health within residents to help reduce stress in urban areas in order to improve the overall health of residents. It also seeks to identify the social and environmental benefits for green in cities. The findings of this research will provide recommendations to help improve accessibility and inclusivity to green spaces in urban communities.
Objectives:
Investigatable - the effect of limited green spaces on mental health in urban areas
Examine - The benefits of adding green to urban areas and help understand change the behaviors when added green (soaicl interaction)
Identify - strategies look for strategies to create healthier urban environments
Analyze - find examples and case studies and literature review from other cases in Cape Town
STEP 4 : METHODOLOGY AND RQ
RQ : How does the integration of green spaces help reduce urban stress and improve mental health for the residents in Cape Town
Methods :
This study will use mixed methods to get a full view of the topic. using Qualitative methods through interviews, observations and case studies and Quantitative methods through surveys and questionnaires.
Observation comparison to see behavior in green and grey
Semi structures interview for comparison
case study for analysis
questions at survey for satisfactory scale and how much they use green spaces every day

Analyze - compare findings from the collection of data
