Community & School Based Recreation
Activities organized in schools or communities to promote physical fitness, teamwork, enjoyment, and social interaction.
Planning (Step 1)
The first step of organizing activities where the organizer decides what activity will happen, when it will happen, where it will happen, and who will participate.
Preparing Equipment and Materials (Step 2)
The preparation of needed items such as balls, whistles, score sheets, sound systems, and first aid kits to prevent delays during an activity.
Assigning Responsibilities (Step 3)
Giving each member a specific task, such as Leader, Referee, Timekeeper, Facilitator, or Scorekeeper, to maintain order and teamwork.
Conducting the Activity (Step 4)
The phase where the organizer guides participants, explains rules clearly, maintains discipline, and ensures safety.
Evaluation (Step 5)
The final step occurring after the event to ask for feedback, identify strengths and weaknesses, and think of future improvements.
Community Recreation Programs
Activities like Zumba, fun runs, and sports leagues organized to encourage healthy lifestyles and strengthen community relationships.
Inclusivity in Recreation
The principle that everyone is welcome to join regardless of age, gender, skill level, disability, or background.
Personal Fitness Assessment
The process of checking a person’s physical fitness and health condition to identify strengths, weaknesses, and areas needing improvement.
BMI (Body Mass Index)
A method used to determine if a person’s weight is appropriate for their height.
Underweight
A BMI classification for a result below 18.5.
Normal weight
A BMI classification for a result between 18.5 and 24.9.
Overweight
A BMI classification for a result between 25 and 29.9.
Obese
A BMI classification for a result of 30 and above.
Strength Test
A type of fitness test that measures muscle power and force.
Endurance Test
A type of fitness test that measures how long a person can continue physical activity without getting tired easily.
Flexibility Test
A type of fitness test that measures the ability of muscles and joints to move freely.
SMART Goals
Organized plans used to achieve fitness objectives, standing for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound.
Monitoring
The act of observing a recreational activity while it is happening.
Evaluation
The process of checking if recreational activities were successful and effective after they have happened.
Feedback
Comments and suggestions from participants gathered through surveys, interviews, observation, or asking questions.
Culminating Activities
Final activities, such as a Recreation Festival or Fitness Day, where students apply everything they learned.
Portfolio Submission (Fitness Journal)
A collection of records showing a student's fitness activities, goals, reflections, and achievements to track progress.
