FIRST
When performing CPR on Adult (8 y/o +), the compression rate is
100-120 bpm within depth of at least 2 inches (5cm). Open airway and give 2 breaths looking to see if the chest rise and fall. Give each breath over 1 second
When performing CPR on a Child (1-8y/o)
at least one third the depth of the chest, 2 inches or 5cm.
When performing CPR on an infant (birth-1y/o)
one third the depth of the chest, about 1 ½ inches, 4cm. Allow complete chest recoil after each compression, minimize interruptions, give 2 effective breaths that make the chest rise and fall and avoid excessive ventilation
For suspected neck injury use the______ to open airway
Jaw thrust
For no neck injury is suspected use the _______?
Head tilt chin lift
What does AED stand for? Why is is important?
Automated External Defibrillator/ because restores a regular cardiac rhythm
Step when using AED
Turn it on, follow the AED prompts, Attach pads then clear the victim before the rhythm analysis, never use the AED in water and make sure to dry the chest completely, if patient had a transdermal patch (use gloves to remove the patch), Avoid placing the AED pad directly over a pacemaker or implanted defibrillator, if they have hairy chest, shave or use an extra set of pads to remove the hair
Always rotate rescuers every ____ or ______ for chest compressions
2 minutes or 5 cycles
Ratio of compressions and breaths
1 rescuer CPR Adult- 30:2
2 rescuer Adult- 30:2
For children of you are alone and do not have a cell phone, complete _____ of CPR then call for help and get an AED. You can take an infant with you to get an AED and call for EMS
5 cycles
1 rescuer child-30:2
2 rescuer child -15:2
1 rescuer infant 30:2 using the two thumb-encircling technique
2 rescuers infant 15:2 using the two thumb- encircling technique.
In responsive Adult or child that is Chocking
use abdominal thrust (Heimlich maneuver) repeat until the object is expelled or the victim becomes unresponsive when they become unresponsive, gently lower them to the ground begin CPR starting with chest compressions. Each time you open the airway, look for the object. If you see the object, remove it. Do not perform a blind finger sweep. After 5 cycles activate EMS if it hasn't already been done.
Responsive Infant Chocking
kneel or sit with them in your lap. Hold the baby facedown with the head slightly lower than the chest, resting on your forearm. Support the infant's head and jaw with your hand. Take care to avoid compressing the soft tissues of the infant's throat. Rest your forearm lap or thigh to support the infant. Deliver 5 back slaps and then flip the baby over and deliver 5 chest thrusts with 2 fingers. Repeat the sequence until the object is removed, or the infant becomes unresponsive.
Unresponsive Infant
Begin CPR each time you open the airway look for the obstructed object, if you see it remove it.
