EXTERIOR

  • housed holy relics, relatively plain exterior (safe space for refugees)

  • Bell towers, buttressing (used to help bare weight, not a lot of windows due to this)

  • Roman influences on the architecture: barrel vaults → arches on a larger scale, enlarged columns → buttressing

  • Follows pilgramage plan → ambulatory, longer naves, radiating chapels

TYMPANUM

  • little negative space with a dense narrative, Christ in the center

  • His right has images of the saved → Mary and peter with keys, angels, bottom register has house of paradise, saint for blessed by the hand og god, bodies coming out of coffins to enter paradise

  • His left has images of the damned → Judas hanging from the tree, demons tourturing people, satan in hell,
