Exact Form
A mathematical representation of a value that avoids rounding or decimal approximations, often used when evaluating arithmetic expressions.
VAT
A component of Consumer Arithmetic used to calculate tax applied to products or services.
Overtime Wages
Earnings calculated based on work hours performed beyond the basic hourly rate.
Factorise
The algebraic process of expanding an expression into its constituent factors, which includes techniques for quadratic expressions.
Composite Cross-section
A cross-sectional area of a solid, such as a prism, that is made up of multiple shapes like a rectangle and a semicircle.
Intercepts
The specific points where a line or curve crosses the axes on a coordinate geometry graph.
y=mx+c
The standard equation of a straight line where m represents the gradient and c represents the y-intercept.
Perpendicularity
The relationship between two lines that meet at a right angle (90∘), which can be proven using their equations.
Composite Function
A function that is formed by the composition of two other functions, evaluated by applying one function to the result of another.
Inverse of a Linear Function
A function that reverses the operations of a given linear function.
Trapezium
A four-sided figure with one pair of parallel sides, requiring specific area formulas in mensuration.
Pythagoras' Theorem
A geometric theorem used to calculate the length of a missing side in a right-angled triangle, where a2+b2=c2.
Trigonometric Ratios
The ratios of the sides of a right triangle (such as sine, cosine, and tangent) used to calculate unknown angles.
Parabola
The smooth, symmetrical curve resulting from the plot of a quadratic function.
Roots
The values read from a quadratic graph where the parabola intersects the x-axis.
Vertex
The highest or lowest point (turning point) on a parabola.
Axis of Symmetry
The vertical line that divides a parabola into two identical mirror images, defined by a specific equation.
