Central Nervous System (CNS)
The part of the nervous system that consists of the brain and the spinal cord.
Peripheral Nervous System (PNS)
The part of the nervous system that connects the central nervous system to the rest of the body, including somatic and autonomic systems.
Somatic Nervous System
A branch of the peripheral nervous system that controls voluntary movements by connecting to skeletal muscles.
Sympathetic Nervous System
A branch of the autonomic nervous system responsible for arousing the body and preparing it for quickly responding to stressful situations.
Parasympathetic Nervous System
A branch of the autonomic nervous system that calms the body, reducing arousal and facilitating rest and digestion.
