Treaty of Versailles
A peace treaty that brought World War I to an end, imposing heavy reparations and territorial losses on Germany.
League of Nations
An international organization founded after World War I to promote peace and cooperation among countries.
Abyssinia
Refers to the invasion of Ethiopia by Italy in the 1930s, significant to discussions on the League of Nations' effectiveness.
Appeasement
The policy of making concessions to dictatorial powers in order to avoid conflict, particularly associated with Britain’s approach to Hitler.
Weimar Germany
The federal republic and parliamentary democracy that existed in Germany from 1919 to 1933 before the establishment of Nazi Germany.
Reichstag Fire
A pivotal event in which the German parliament building was set on fire, leading to the consolidation of Adolf Hitler's power.
Enabling Act
A 1933 law that gave Adolf Hitler's cabinet the power to enact laws without the involvement of the Reichstag, effectively enabling his dictatorship.
Night of the Long Knives
A 1934 purge in which the Nazi regime carried out a series of political killings, consolidating Hitler's power.
Concentration Camps
