Anterior ∆
consists of two smaller triangles: muscular and carotid
boundaries:
anterior midline of the neck
superior belly of the omohyoid muscle
sternocleidomastoid muscles

Muscular ∆
boundaries
anterior midline of the neck
superior belly of omohyoid muscle
sternocleidomastoid muscle
- contains the trap mm. (infrahyoid mm.) - likes like straps on neck. They include sternohyoid, omohyoid, sternothyroid, and thyrohyoid muscles. They act to stabilize the hyoid bone and larynx in swallowing and speech.

Carotid ∆
boundaries:
sternocleidomastoid muscle
superior belly of omohyoid muscle
posterior belly of digastric muscle
contents:
carotid sheath - tube of connective tissue which contains the common carotid a., internal jugular v., and vagus n. (between and deep to the other two)
internal carotid a. - no branches in the neck → enters carotid foramen
external carotid a. - supplies branches to the face (facial a.), neck, and side of head → terminates at temple

Posterior ∆
boundaries:
sternocleidomastoid muscle
clavicle
superior border of trapezius muscle
external jugular v. - just deep to the skin
phrenic n. lies on surface of anterior scalene muscle
roots of brachial plexus enter into the triangle between the anterior and middle scalene muscles
