activity analysis
s the recording and analysis of movement and skill data from a game, sport or activity
data collection
the process of gathering information
direct observation
the coach or interested party views the player or team from the sideline; subjective and low accuracy
digital recording
the use of video to collect statistical data that can be recorded live and analysed immediately, or gathered and analysed after the event; less practical but higher accuracy
skill frequency table
generally referred to as 'stats'; tables outline the frequency and effectiveness of skill execution
muscle-use analysis
the player is observed and notes are made about the major muscles or muscle groups most used; enhances the specificity of training
movement patterns
the typical movements completed by a performer during a sport or activity
GPS (global positioning system)
this technology uses satellites to identify position and movement
heart rate telemeter
a device (usually a watch or a chest strap) that provides data on a participant's heart rate response to physical activity
heart rate
measured in beats per minute (bpm), and is used to estimate physical activity as energy expenditure (oxygen uptake)
aerobic training zone
60-85% of max heart rate
predicted max heart rate equation
220-age
work-to-rest ratio
a summary of the time an athlete spends physically working compared to the time spent resting or recovering
work-to-rest ratio for ATP-CP
1:5 and above (rest significantly higher than work)
work-to-rest ratio for anaerobic glycolysis
1:3-1:4 (rest higher than work)
work-to-rest ratio for aerobic energy system
1:1-1:2 or 2:1 or above (work similar to rest OR work higher than rest)
