The three prophecies the witches gave him in the play made him turn ambitious. The prophecies that had been given to him, had made him overconfident.

Killing Banquo/planning to kill him and his son, killing Macduff’s family line, and killing Young Siward. As well as, King Duncan. Overall, becoming a tyrannical ruler.

They were designed to make Macbeth confused.

Hecat succeeded, by changing Macbeth as a person. The apparitions gave him too much confidence.
