Renaissance
A transition between medieval times and early modern times.
Humanism
A philosophy that was centered in human reason and served as the heart of the Renaissance.
Traits of humanism
Includes the study of Greek and Roman cultures, and focusing on more secular subjects more than religious themes.
Fransisco Petrarch
An individual responsible for preserving Roman and Greek writings and translating them into the vernacular of the time.
Lorenzo Medicis
A member of the Medici family and a politician who funded the arts such as poets and philosophers.
Leonardo Di Vinci
A figure considered one of the best painters and sculptors during his time.
Vernacular
The common language of the time into which Fransisco Petrarch translated Roman and Greek writings.
