What it shows
Shows what’s reactive and what’s not. The more reactive a metal is, the more it wants to lose it electrons also giving them a more negative standard electrode potential. The more reactive a non-metal is, the more it wants to gain electrons, more positive electrode potential.
Can predict whether a reaction will happen using this.
Zinc reacts with Copper ions, but not Copper reacting with Zinc.
Solid Copper doesnt react with dilute Sulfuric acid, but Sulfuric acid does react with Copper ions.
Sometimes the prediction can be wrong
If the conditions are not standard. And if reaction kinetics are not favourable, reaction slow or high activation energy.
