Good Laboratory Practice (GLP)
A standard aimed at ensuring the quality and integrity of laboratory data and processes.
ISO 9001
An international standard that specifies requirements for a quality management system.
ISO 17025
An international standard that specifies general requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories.
Accreditation
The process of certifying that an organization meets specific standards and requirements.
Traceability
The ability to verify the history, location, or use of an item by means of documented records.
UKAS
The sole government-recognized accreditation body in the UK.
Calibration
A process of configuring an instrument to provide a result for a sample within an acceptable range.
Audit
A systematic examination of a quality system carried out by an internal or external auditor.
Compliance
The act of adhering to laws, regulations, or guidelines set by governing bodies.
Quality Assurance (QA)
A way of preventing errors or defects in manufactured products and avoiding problems when delivering solutions or services to customers.
Non-compliance
Failure to act in accordance with a law, regulation, or standard.
Accreditation Process
The series of steps an organization must undergo to achieve formal recognition for its competency.
Metrological traceability
The property of a measurement result whereby it can be related to appropriate standards through an unbroken chain of comparisons.
SOP (Standard Operating Procedure)
A set of written instructions detailing the steps to be followed in carrying out a given operation.
Auditor
A person who conducts an audit to ensure compliance with standards and regulations.
Stakeholder
Any individual or group that has an interest in the outcome of a project or organization.
