Dance
A performing art form involving sequences of bodily movements, often performed to music, that express ideas, emotions and stories.
Traditional Dance
Another term for "Folk Dance" frequently used when the emphasis is on the cultural roots of the dance.
Modern Dance
A type of dance created by early 20th century dancers and choreographers as a way of renouncing the strictness of classical ballet.
Contemporary Dance
A type of concert dance which was developed from modern and postmodern dance.
Ballroom Dance
A name for a number of dances done in ballrooms, usually performed by pairs (a man and a woman) dancing separately from other pairs.
Cheer Dance
The performance of athletic skills, jumps, dance, and or chanting to gain a response from spectators at an event.
Hip-Hop Dance
A dance style that is very energetic, expressive, improvisational, and social.
Street Dance
A style that evolved from hip-hop dance which originated on the streets and clubs among groups of people instead of dance studios.
Festival Dance
A cultural dance performed to strong beats of percussion instruments by a community sharing the same culture, usually in honor of a Patron Saint or for a bountiful harvest.
Roman Pantomime
A highly developed art
