ADF (Automatic Document Feeder)
A printer component that, along with scanner strip glass, is likely the cause of vertical lines on scans or copies when regular print output is unaffected.
Plenum-rated cable
Cabling with a jacket designed to reduce smoke and toxic fumes during a fire; required for installation in shared air-handling spaces above drop ceilings.
Port 21
The TCP port used by FTP (File Transfer Protocol) for control communication.
SMB (Server Message Block)
The standard protocol used for Windows-style network file and folder sharing.
Type 2 hypervisor
A hypervisor that runs as an application on top of an underlying host operating system.
Type 1 hypervisor
A bare-metal hypervisor installed directly on physical hardware.
IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service)
A cloud service model providing virtual machines, storage, and networking; it is the best model for VM-based disaster recovery.
VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure)
A technology that hosts desktop environments centrally on a server and streams the GUI to thin clients or endpoint devices.
Sandbox
An isolated environment used to test suspicious files or code so behavior can be observed without risking the production system.
Ultra HD (UHD)
A display resolution characterized by a pixel count of 3840×2160.
Fuser
A laser printer component that uses heat and pressure to bond toner to paper; failure leads to toner wiping off the page.
CMOS battery
A small battery on the motherboard that preserves BIOS/UEFI settings and the system clock when the computer is powered off.
PAN (Personal Area Network)
A network type that connects devices within an individual's immediate area, such as Bluetooth connections.
Data roaming
A mobile device setting that must be enabled to permit international cellular data access for email and internet.
Tethering
The process of sharing a mobile phone's internet connection with another device via USB, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
Maintenance kit
A set of replacement parts for printers, including rollers and fuser components, used to resolve repeated paper jams.
2.4GHz
The wireless frequency that provides better penetration through walls and physical objects compared to 5GHz or 6GHz.
Community cloud
A cloud infrastructure shared by multiple organizations with common requirements, such as industry peers or those with shared compliance needs.
USB-C
A connector shape whose functionality (power, data, video, or Thunderbolt support) depends on the specific cable and device capabilities.
Managed switch
A network switch that supports administrative configurations, such as port VLAN assignment to segment traffic.
Port 389
The port number associated with LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) services.
Port 53
The port number assigned to DNS (Domain Name System) for name resolution.
Port 68
The port number used for DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) client communication.
NFC (Near Field Communication)
A very short-range wireless communication technology used for tap-to-pay, quick pairing, or small data exchanges.
PSU (Power Supply Unit)
The hardware component responsible for providing power to the system; failure usually results in no lights, fans, or power-on activity.
Data residency
Legal or regulatory requirements regarding the physical location where data is stored, often addressed using hybrid cloud models.
