If you understand everything on this page, you are ready! 🎼 PART A: MUSIC VOCABULARY Tempo Tempo means how fast or slow the music is. Fast tempo = fast music Slow tempo = slow music Dynamics Dynamics tell us how loud or soft to play. Examples: p (piano) = soft f (forte) = loud Articulation Articulation describes how notes are started and ended. It tells us if notes are smooth, short, or accented. Staff The staff is five lines and four spaces. Notes are written on the lines and spaces. Clef A clef is a symbol at the beginning of the staff. It tells us what notes the lines and spaces represent. Measure A measure is a group of beats. Measures are separated by bar lines. Rest A rest means do not play for a certain number of beats. Rests are just as important as notes! Time Signature The time signature is written at the beginning of the music.
