VOTE Classification
A system used to assess airway obstruction by evaluating four anatomical structures: the Velum, Oropharynx, Tongue Base, and Epiglottis.
Obstruction severity 0
Indicates that there is no obstruction.
Obstruction severity 1
Indicates that there is a partial obstruction.
Obstruction severity 2
Indicates that there is a complete obstruction.
Velum
The first structure indicated by the letter V in the VOTE classification system.
Oropharynx
An anatomical site in the VOTE system where obstruction can be distinguished as being related solely to the tonsils or including the lateral walls.
Tongue Base
The anatomical structure represented by the letter T in the VOTE classification.
Epiglottis
The anatomical structure represented by the letter E in the VOTE classification.
Antero-posterior
One of the three potential configurations of airway obstruction in the VOTE system.
Lateral
A configuration of airway obstruction that can be observed in structures such as the Oropharynx.
Concentric
A specific configuration of airway obstruction noted in the VOTE classification.
Configuration criteria
In the VOTE system, this is noted specifically for anatomical structures demonstrating a degree of obstruction greater than 0.
