External oblique
O: superior and lateral on exterior surfaces of ribs 5-12 I: inferior and medial on linea alba, pubic tubercle, and anterior 1/2 iliac crest A: compresses and supports abdominal viscera, helps FLX, ROT trunk (LE fixed: contralateral ROT; UE fixed: ipsilateral ROT) N: Thoracoabdominal nerves, anterior rami of T7-T11 (not full T6-T12) and subcostal nerve, T7-T11
Internal oblique
O: thoracolumbar fascia, anterior 2/3 iliac crest, connective tissue deep to lateral 1/3 inguinal ligament I: Interior borders ribs 10 (last of false)-12 (floating), linea alba, pectin pubis via conjoint tendon (blends with transverse tendon) A: Compress abdominal cavity, FLX and ROT trunk (LE fixed: ipsilateral ROT; UE fixed: contralateral ROT) N: Thoracoabdominal nerve, anterior rami T6-12 (all), 1st lumbar nerve, T6-T12
Rectus abdominis
O: pubic symphysis and pubic crest I: xyphoid process, costal artcilages of ribs 5-7 (true ribs) A: FLX trunk, FLX lumbar vertebrae, compress abdominal viscera, controal and stabilize tilt of pelvis N: Thoracoabdominal nerves anteiror rami T6-T12, T6-T12
Transversus abdominus
O: internal surfaces of costal cartilages T7-12 (lowest true rib and false/floating), thoracolumbar fascia, iliac crest, later 1/3 inguinal ligament I: Linea alba, aponeurosis of internal oblique, pubic crest, pectin pubis through conjoint tendon A: compresses/.supports abdominal visceral N: thoracoabdominal nerves anterior rami T6-T12 and 1st lumbar nerve (like internal oblique!), T6-T12
Quadratus lumborum
O: Medial half inferior border rib 12 and lumbar spine TPs I: iliolumbar ligamnet and internal lip of iliac crest A: holds down rib cage esp during inspiration, EXT and lat FLX vertebral column (Bilateral EXT, unilateral lat FLX; When 1 works unilaterally, get little bit of EXT along with side FLX) N: Ventral rami, T12-L4
Psoas major
O: TPs lumbar spine, sides of lumbar vertebral bodies and disks T12-L5 I: Lesser trochanter of femur and shaft just inferior to it A: Primary FLX of hip with iliacus N: Ventral rami, L1-3
Psoas minor
O: Sides of bodies and disks of T12-L1 I: Pectineal line and iliopectineal eminence A: Assist psoas major with hip FLX N: Ventral rami, L1-2
Diaphragm
O: Inside of ribs and vertebrae, external I: On itself, central tendon of diaphragm A: Contracts and descends during inspiration N: Phrenic nerve, C3, 4, 5
