Determinism
The thesis that all events are caused to occur precisely as they do through the preceding event and the laws that dictate how one event transforms into the next.
Indeterminism
The thesis that says determinism is false, and that there are some events that are not caused to occur in the manner presented by determinism
What is the main issue with indeterminism?
Does it amount to anything other than genuine randomness?
Premise Three
Free will is incompatible with determinism, and genuine randomness is not an appropriate basis for free will.
Dilemma of Determinism
If determinism is true, then we have no FREE will. If indeterminism is true, then we have no free WILL. One of them must be true so either way, we don’t have free will.
Hard Determinism
Determinism is true and so free will does not exist.
Libertarianism
Accept free will and reject determinism
Compatibilism
Accept determinism and free will. Determinism is true but free will still exists.
