Armistice agrement for germany

, the Germans signed the Armistice - an agreement made to end the war and accept defeat.

In signing this, Germany agreed to the following:

To withdraw their troops out of France

surrender their artillery weapon and warfare

return prisoners of war

To promise to pay reparations (monetary compensation for war to the winning side).

The terms of the German surrender would be finalised later in the Treaty of Versailles, 1919.

  • Leader of USA and Great Britain and France met in Versailles to decide what should happen next. Germany, Austria and Hungary had no say in the discussion.

  • Germany had to accept full responsibility for the war

  • Cant join league of nations

  • They had to give back 10% of their territories

  • They were forced to demilitarise, banned from having an army of more than 100,000 men and from having any submarines or an air force.

  • Germany were asked to pay 132 billion gold marks as war reparations. This would contribute to a terrible economic depression in Germany in the 1920s and 30s.
