Initially , US wanted to stay out of war but americans were felt bad for its allies(allied powers)

, the Germans signed the Armistice - an agreement made to end the war and accept defeat.
In signing this, Germany agreed to the following:
•To withdraw their troops out of France
•surrender their artillery weapon and warfare
• return prisoners of war
•To promise to pay reparations (monetary compensation for war to the winning side).
The terms of the German surrender would be finalised later in the Treaty of Versailles, 1919.
