Crown lands
Lands owned by the federal or provincial governments.
First Nations’ Reserves
Lands owned by the Federal Crown for the use and benefit of First Nations, not subject to The Land Titles Act.
Fee simple
The greatest estate known to Canadian law, equivalent to absolute ownership of land.
Legal description
A precise description of land required for legal registration, detailing its location and boundaries.
Dominion Land Survey (DLS)
A grid system used for surveying land in western Canada, established in 1871.
Subdivision
The division of land into two or more parcels.
Parcel number
A nine-digit number assigned to each parcel of surface land in Saskatchewan for identification.
Equity acres
Additional reserve land that a First Nation may acquire beyond its treaty entitlement.
Meridian
A line of longitude that serves as a reference point for land descriptions.
Correction lines
Lines established to maintain equal sized townships as one moves northward in Saskatchewan.
Condominium
Ownership of defined space in a building or land with common ownership of the remaining space.
