What does Iodine solution test for?
It tests for starch, a polysaccharide.
How big should the sample be?
5 cm cubed.
How should the sample be prepared?
Crush small amounts of the sample with a mortar and pestle, and mix it with distilled water in a beaker.
What is the second step of the experiment?
Add 2-3 drops of iodine solution into the sample.
What is the third step of the experiment?
Shake the sample.
How should the sample look if there is little to no starch present?
It should be orange-brown
How should the sample look if there is a high concentration of starch present?
It should be blue-black.
