What’s the lab about?
This lab was about identifying precipitates formed during double displacement reactions.
How was the lab carried out? What did you do?
Cation and anion solutions were mixed in a well plate. Precipitate formation was observed and balanced equations were written.
What is the purpose of this lab?
The purpose was to determine which ion combinations form insoluble precipitates.
Can you identify/name the different pieces of equipment/materials that were used?
Well plate
Droppers
Solutions
Waste beaker
Can you identify which equipment would be best suited for each lab/goal?
Well plate → observing many reactions quickly
Droppers → adding controlled amounts of solution
Do you know how to properly use the equipment?
Solutions are added carefully into separate wells to avoid contamination.
Can you explain the chemistry concepts demonstrated in this lab?
Double displacement reactions occur when ions switch partners. Insoluble compounds form precipitates.
Can you discuss potential errors for the lab?
Possible errors:
Cross contamination
Misidentifying cloudiness
