Gender Socialization
The concept that gender is made up of norms and values rather than biological features, and that how an individual 'performs' their gender depends on the norms and values they are taught.
Gender Discrimination
Any exclusion or restriction made on the basis of gender that creates barriers in recognizing, enjoying, or exercising full and equal rights; it is considered a human rights violation under Article 2 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Gender Inequality
Discrimination on the basis of sex or gender that causes one sex or gender to be routinely privileged or prioritized over another, occurring at every stage of life.
CEDAW
The Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women, also known as the International Bill of Rights of Women, adopted by the United Nations in 1979.
Non-discrimination (CEDAW Principle)
The goal to eliminate discrimination against women in all fields and spheres, holding both state and non-state actors accountable in the case of rights violations.
State Obligation (CEDAW Principle)
The duty of the state to respect, protect, promote, and fulfill human rights, as well as ensure 'due diligence' in preventing, investigating, and sanctioning private acts of discrimination.
Substantive Equity (CEDAW Principle)
A principle that seeks to achieve 'equality of outcomes' by using corrective and positive measures to eliminate discrimination at individual, institutional, and systemic levels.

The Magna Carta of Women, enacted in the Philippines on August 14, 2009, which serves as a comprehensive human rights law to eliminate discrimination against Filipino women.

An educational approach for children that teaches them to rely less on subconscious assumptions and generalizations and more on individual personality traits.
Hidden Messages (in Schools)
Informal lessons passed to boys and girls about what is acceptable and what isn’t, despite official equal opportunity policies.
ASEAN First (CEDAW)
The Philippines was the first ASEAN country to sign and ratify the CEDAW convention.
