always use the pronouns and names people want you to use, ask if you’re unsure and if you make a mistake correct yourself without being dismissive

recognize the diversity of trans and genderqueer lives

dont confuse gender with sexual orientation

dont ask about surgery or hormone status

dont assume all trans people want hormones and/or surgery, or to transition at all

be proactive and informed about restrooms

ask when and where it is safe to use their chosen name and pronouns

instead of saying someone was born a boy or girl, try saying they were assigned male or female at birth

dont ask trans people about their bodies

respect and support trans people in their lives and choices
