Acute Pain
Pain that begins suddenly & Lasts for a short time, usually related to injury, Surgery, or illness, & resolves as healing occurs. Lasts less than 3 months.
Addiction
A Chronic disease Characterized by compulsive drug use despite harmful Consequences & an inability to control use.
Adjuvant Medication
Drugs that are not primarily pain medications but are used to enhance pain relief, Such as antidepressants or anticonvulsants.
Analgesic
A medication that relieves or reduces pain without causing loss of consciousness.
Chronic Pain
Pain that lasts longer than 3 months or continues beyond the expected healing period.
Coanalgesic Medication
A medication used alongside analgesics to improve pain control or treat specific types of pain, especially neuropathic pain.
Drug Tolerance
A condition in which repeated use of a medication results in the need for large doses to achieve the same effect.
Multimodal Analgesia
The use of 2 or more different pain-relief methods or medications that work by different mechanisms to improve pain control & reduce side effects.
Nerve Block
An injection of a local anesthetic near a nerve or group of nerves to temporarily block pain signals.
Neuropathic Pain
