A substitutent attached to a benzene ring that directs an incoming electrophile to the meta carbon of the ring

Activating Group

A substituent that increases the reactivity of molecule in a particular ring

Deactivating Group

A substituent that decreases reactivity of a molecule in a particular reaction

Nucleophilic Aromatic Substitution reaction

A reaciton in which a nucleophile replaces a LG attached to aromatic ring

A reactive intermediate in nucleophilic aromatic substitution reaction that proceed by nucleophile addition elimination mechanism
