The sugar act provided for a tax on sugar, molasses, and rum to help raise money. It lowered the tax but was more strict in enforcing it. Grenville helped pass the Sugar act by reducing the taxes and to make sure it was strictly enforced.

The Englightenment influenced the American Revolution by promoting the ideas of individual rights, liberty, and democracy. These ideas caused the colonists to question the way things had been done and fight for their individual rights. As a result they looked for the freedom to develop their own govenemnt based on democracy.
