Recombinant DNA
DNA that has been formed artificially by combining constituents from different organisms.
Restriction Enzymes
Proteins that cut DNA at specific sequences, enabling the creation of recombinant DNA.
Palindromic Sequence
A sequence of DNA that reads the same forwards and backwards, allowing restriction enzymes to recognize and cut at specific sites.
Steps to create recombinant DNA plasmid
Cut DNA with restriction enzymes, 2. Ligate fragments, 3. Introduce plasmid into host cells.
Compatible Sticky Ends
Ends of DNA fragments that can anneal or stick together after being cut by different restriction enzymes.
Restriction Fragments
Segments of DNA produced after cutting with restriction enzymes.
Complementary DNA (cDNA)
Synthetic DNA that corresponds to a specific mRNA sequence, representing only the protein-coding regions.
Genomic DNA
The complete set of DNA in an organism, including both coding and non-coding regions, such as introns.
Recognition Sequence
The specific sequence of nucleotides that a restriction enzyme recognizes and binds to for cutting.
