Collagen fiber
Strong and flexible fibers found in cartilage and bone, surrounded by water molecules for cushioning effect, occurring in parallel bundles.
Elastic protein
Smaller than collagen, able to return to its original shape, joined together by a fibrous network. able to go back to its original shape.
Reticular fiber
Collagen arrangement in bundles of glycoprotein, providing support in walls, thinner than collagen.
is produced by fiber
forms storma
ex. nerve fiber, adipose tissue
Connective Tissue: Embryonic
present in fetus or embryo
Cartilage
Resilient tissue with collagen fibers and chondroitin sulfate, few cells, large extracellular matrix, and no blood supply.
Cartilage: Chondrocyte
Mature cartilage cell found singly or in groups within spaces called Cartilage lacunae.
Bone tissue
Stores calcium and phosphorus, houses red bone marrow, produces blood cells, categorized as compact or spongy.
Blood Plasma
Pale yellow fluid in blood, consisting mostly of water and substances like nutrients, enzymes, proteins, and hormones.
Formed elements
Components of blood including red blood cells (erythrocytes), white blood cells (leukocytes), and platelets (thrombocytes).
Lymph Plasma
Liquid flowing in lymphatic vessels.
Fibers
embedded in the extracellular matrix
Mature connective tissue
present at birth
Connective Tissue-
mature, flexible, fiber,
Loose connective tissue
loosely arranged ex. Areolar, adipose, reticular
Dense connective tissue
contains more fiber are thicker, densed tissue
Supporting connective tissue
protect soft tissue
Collagen
is the most abundant protein.
Liquid connective tissue
extracellular matrix liquid
Embryonic connective tissue
-Mesenchyme – in embryo- developed from fertilization through the first two months
-Mucoid – in fetus developed through the 3th month
Cartilage
collagen fiber, chondroitin sulfate- is responsible for cartilage resilience , has few cells and large quanities of extracellular matrix, no nerves or blood vessels or blood supply- Antiangiogenesis prevents it, which heals poorly. Could be used for cancer treatment.
tissues include: Hyaline cartilage, fibrous cartilage, elastic cartilage
Cartilage: Perichondrium
dense irregular tissue
Interstitial growth
cartilages increase rapidly in size due to division
Appositional growth-
growth of outer surface, the inner cellular of perichondrium differentiate into chondroblast that becomes chondrocyte
