Natural Boundaries
Borders that follow natural phenomena, such as mountain ranges between Scandinavian countries.
Territorial Waters
Waters adjacent to a state's coast where the state exercises its economic and security functions.
Government
The authority that legislates laws, provides services, ensures state sovereignty, and manages the interests of the people.
Unitary (Simple) State
A state that has a single government, such as the Republic of Algeria.
Geometric Boundaries
Borders that coincide with lines of longitude and latitude.
Airspace
The atmospheric area belonging to a specific state.
Functions of Political Borders
Includes defining state policy, controlling infiltration and smuggling, and protecting the state from diseases and epidemics.
Human Boundaries
Borders that follow human phenomena such as linguistic, ethnic, or religious composition.
Microstates
Countries that are very small in area, including Bahrain, Singapore, and Monaco.
Giant States (Population)
Countries with populations exceeding 1 billion people, such as China and India.
