Aesthetic

Sentence: I don’t understand why people think minimalistic and neutral toned rooms are aesthetic. I find them boring and lacking color.
Defunct

Sentence: The local store has been defunct for years. It closed during covid and never re-opened.
Discomfit

Sentence: I am discomfited by my stomach growling during the exam. Everyone turned too look and I felt my cheeks grow red
Espouse
(v.) to take up and support; to become attached to, adopt; to marry
Sentence: My friends espouse the idea of reading daily. They support the habit of reading every morning.
Fetish
(n.) an object believed to have magical powers; an object of unreasoning devotion or reverence
Sentence: When I found a four leaf clover it became my fetish. I bring it everywhere because I think it will bring me luck oneday.
Gregarious
(adj.) living together in a herd or group; sociable, seeking the company of others → Social and extrovert
Sentence: My best friend and I could not be more opposite. I like hanging out in small groups whereas she is very gregarious and loves to get a big group together.

Sentence: The hapless Charlie Brown is constantly tricked by Lucy into kicking the football. He is so unfortunate that he falls for her tick every time

Sentence: The ballet dance was impeccable. She nailed every turn and her jumps were flawless
Importune

Sentence: I began to importune my parents for a new toy for days giving them all the reasons why I deserved it until they listened.

Sentence: The scientists had to interpolate the missing data points on the graph using the known information and estimating the rest
Irreparable

Sentence: The baseball flying into the window shattered the glass into a million pieces making it irreparable

Sentence: Stanley is very laconic at the start of the play when he talked to Stella. He speaks to her in short, one word commands.

Sentence: The neglected garden languishes in the summer heat becoming brown and drooping from lack of water

Sentence: The mendacious student claimed that his dog ate his homework but he actually did not finish it.

Sentence: After losing the 10th game in ar ow the team reached their nadir. I have never seen them so sad.

Sentence: Phones have become omnipresent in modern life. Everywhere I go people are always on their phones.

Sentence: My mom yelled at me because after I was done baking I gave the kitchen a quick perfunctory cleaning and left all the dishes in the sink
Plaintive
(adj.) expressive of sorrow or woe, melancholy
Sentence: After putting my puppy in her crate she gave a plaintive cry. I felt so bad because she was so sad.
Requite
(v.) to make suitable repayment, as for a kindness, service, or favor; to make retaliation, as for an injury or wrong; to reciprocate
Sentence: He was happy to requite his neighbor’s kindness by mowing her lawn for her. The day before she had let his puppy out when he was gone.
Tantamount

Sentence: While a B on a test may be amazing for some students, for others it is tantamount to failing
