What is Grace?

Grace is God’s free gift. We don’t earn it. It lets us share in God’s life and comes to us through the sacraments.

What are the 2 main types of Grace?

There are two kinds of grace: sanctifying and actual. Sanctifying grace saves us and helps us live with God. Because of sin, we need this grace to be close to God and become holy.

What is a Sacrament?

Sacraments are signs we can sense (see, hear, etc.). Jesus made them and gave them to the Church. They don’t just show something—they actually give us grace.

How many sacraments are there? Why are there different ones.

There are 7 sacraments, each of them have been instituted by Christ and given to the church through the apostles, each sacrament has it's own way of showing us how grace is given to us.

Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist.

Can a person go directly to God without the needing sacraments?

Yes, you can; But sacrament intention is so we can grow a closer relationship with God.

What if we don't feel anything when we receive a sacrament? How do we know that any of the sacraments really work?

Each sacrament is effective, even if we do not feel it sacraments work because God acts through them—not because of how we feel. If they’re done the right way, they really give grace, even if there’s no emotional experience.

Example: Sacraments are like medicine, they heal us but don't work right away.

Why is Baptism so Important? What are its effects?

Baptism is important because:

  • It leaves a permanent mark—you can’t lose it

  • It brings you into the Church

  • It washes away original sin and gives you God’s life (grace)

  • It’s needed for salvation

  • It gives you a new life in Christ

  • It helps you believe, hope, and love God

  • You receive the Holy Spirit to guide you

  • You become part of God’s family

How did the Holy spirit change the lives of the Apostles?

The Apostles were with Jesus and saw His miracles, but they were still afraid and hid. When the Holy Spirit came at Pentecost, it gave them courage and strength to carry out their mission, changing history.

What does the Holy spirit do for us? Why is having a relationship with Him so important?

The holy spirit

  • Guides you – helps you know what’s right and make better choices

  • Gives strength – especially when you’re struggling or afraid

  • Comforts you – brings peace during stress, fear, or sadness

  • Helps you grow – shapes you to be more loving, patient, and kind

  • Teaches you – helps you understand God’s truth more clearly

Without the special connection, faith could feel like rules, with the Holy Spirit, it becomes more personal.

Confirmation is one of the 3 sacraments of initiation, this is in where a person is strengthened by the Holy Spirit.

  • It completes baptism – you’re choosing to fully accept and live your faith

  • You receive the Holy Spirit in a stronger way
