In Shaw Shank Redemption, how did Andy pull what he did?

·       First, Andy asked Red for a small rock hammer, that was supposedly for his hobby of shaping rocks. Then, over nearly twenty years Andy slowly chipped away at the wall of his cell.

·       As Andy’s chipping away at the wall, holes appear and he proceeds to cover them up with posters of Rita Hayworth, Maryland Monroe, and Raquel Welch. This was to keep the guards from seeing the tunnel during inspections.

·       Then, Andy dispersed the debris throughout the prison yard, letting it all fall from his pant leg while walking around. This was so nothing came across as unusual.

·       Next, once the tunnel was complete, it led to a sewage pipe that Andy breaks into and crawls through hundreds of yards of sewage.

·       While in prison Andy was able to launder money for the warden using a fake name (Randall Stephens). Before Andy escapes, he sends over documents exposing the corruption, later withdraws the money once he’s escaped.

·       Finally, during a stormy night Andy escapes, the thunder is able to mask the sound of him breaking the sewage pipe.
