Urbanization
The process by which cities grow and populations increase.
Factors Influencing Urbanization
Eight factors include transportation, economics, diversity, politics, CBD, site and situation, agricultural advancement, and population growth.
Transportation
A key factor in urbanization that refers to the infrastructure that connects different areas within a city.
Central Business District (CBD)
The commercial and business center of a city, characterized by a high density of activities and services.
Primate City
A city that is disproportionately larger than other cities in a country, reflecting uneven population distribution.
Rank-Size Rule
A principle that suggests the population of a city is inversely proportional to its rank in the hierarchy of cities.
Gravity Model
A model that demonstrates the relationship between cities by indicating that larger cities attract more people and resources.
Site and Situation
Site refers to the physical location, while situation describes its relation to surrounding areas and accessibility.
Zoning
Regulations that determine what can be built in certain areas to manage land use and development.
Mixed Use Development
A type of urban development that blends residential, commercial, and cultural uses in one space.
Population Density
The number of people living per unit of area, often categorized as high, medium, or low density.
Suburban Sprawl
The expansion of human populations away from central urban areas into low-density, car-dependent communities.
