Nylock Nut- hex nut with internal nylon collar
Locking nut used to seal bolt thread against seepage of liquids. Ideal where vibrations or motion could loosen the Nut.

Wing Nut- (butterfly nut) fastener with two winged pieces of metal pointing upwards
Provide a grip for hand-tightening in situations where convenience is vital e.g. bike of furniture assembly, advantage as they can be adjusted easily.

Castle Nut- hex nut with castle like section on one side, used with a split/ cotter pin and bolt with pre-drilled hole.
Nut is attached and the pin passed through the castle like notches into the hole within the bolt which prevents the nut from turning, can withstand a lot of vibration and movement.

Split Spring Washer- circular disc (rectangle or square profile) which is split, with one end slightly raised.
Used with nuts and bolts to aid in tightening and the split applies tension to prevent fasteners e.g. nuts from loosening.

Plain Washer- thin circular metal disc (can be square)
Prevents the surface of an object getting damaged when a nut is tightened upon it by distributing the load of the fastener

Hexagonal Bolt
Partially threaded fasteners. The hexagon head enables the bolt to be tightened with a spanner. [Stainless Steel]

Toothed Pulley Wheel
In applications where slippage between belts and pulleys is unacceptable a toothed belt and pulley is used. This is mainly for precise timing mechanisms. [Aluminium/Plastic]

Needle File
Miniature tool with precision cut teeth; used to shape and file small areas and corners of metal, plastic & wood. [High Carbon Steel (Harder)]

Extension Spring
Spring that stretches under tension and returns to its original length when released. Used in movement of cranes. [Spring Steel / Stainless Steel]

Split Pin
A simple fastener that's used to secure a bolt — or any other rod-shaped fastener — in place. [Soft Metal/Mild Steel]

Jubilee Clip
An adjustable metal band used to secure coolant hoses to prevent leaks. This can be a spring type that can self adjust. [Stainless Steel]

Centre Drill
Used for drilling a hole to create an initial guide for a larger drill. [High Speed Steel / Carbide]

Hexagonal Screw
Has a hexagonal head to use with a spanner. Used in construction using steel or wood. [Stainless Steel]

Cap Allen Screw
High strength screw used with an Allen key. Holds parts like couplings and gears onto a shaft to prevent them from moving. [Stainless Steel / Titanium]

External Circlip
To fit into grooves on the outside of shafts and are sprung so they remain securely in place. Used with pliers to insert/remove [Spring Steel / Stainless Steel]

Internal Circlip
Used for securing mechanical elements or bearings on the inside of a bore or other rotating assemblies. [Spring Steel / Stainless Steel]

Compression Spring
Tends to supply force when compressed, either in a hole or around a rod. Can be used in push buttons. [Stainless Steel]

Ball Bearing
To separate two races to reduce surface contact and friction across spinning planes in a bearing. [High Carbon Chromium Steel]

Counter Bore Drill
For boring a flat bottomed hole for bolts or screws. [High Speed Steel / Solid Carbide]

Flat Blade screwdriver
To tighten or loosen screws that have a straight, linear notch in their heads. [Steel (bar), Plastic/Rubber (handle), Nickel or Chromium plating (tip)]

Philips Screwdriver
To tighten or loosen screws that have a cross-shaped notch in their heads. [Steel (bar), Plastic/Rubber (handle), Nickel or Chromium plating (tip)]

Ratchet Socket
To turn a nut or bolt without repositioning the tool (spanner) on the fastener [Chrome Vanadium]

Dial Test Indicator
For precise measurements of workpiece surfaces or indicating displacements during machine setup. [Stainless Steel / Plastic, Glass]

Nylon Bush
To replace metal bearings and bushings often eliminating the need for external lubrication, and decreased wear on mating parts. [Nylon]

Twist Drill
For drilling through anything from wood to plastic to metal products, but not masonry and concrete products. [High Speed Steel / Carbide]

Slot Drill
To create accurate cuts on the faces and edges of materials. Used in milling machines. [High Speed Steel]

Pop Rivet
To make high strength joints in a range of materials, including metals, plastics, wood and leather. [Stainless Steel]

Star Washer
To prevent a fastener from loosening by biting into it. [Stainless Steel]

Ring Spanner
To break loose a tight nut, also used where there is an obstruction close to the sides of a nut since the handle is angled. [Chrome Vanadium Steel]

Open End Spanner
For tightening and loosening of rotary fasteners such as nuts and bolts. [Chrome Vanadium Steel]

Keyed Shaft
Transmits torque between a shaft and a rotating component. Used in gearboxes. [Stainless Steel]

Lip Seal
To exclude contaminants while retaining lubricants. Used in rotating shafts. [Rubber/Composites]

Expanding Bolt
Used in masonry materials. They expand once inserted into a predrilled hole in the masonry. [Stainless Steel]

Raw plug
To enable the attachment of a screw into drywalls. Used in materials which can't handle the weight of what is being screwed in e.g. a TV on the wall. [Plastic]

Countersunk Screw
Designed so that the heads sit flush with the surface. Often used in carpentry. [Stainless Steel]

2 Part Epoxy
Adhesive used in high-strength assembly applications. [Epoxy Resin]

Adjustable Spanner
Can grip fasteners such as nuts and bolts of multiple sizes. [Chrome Vanadium Steel]

O Ring
Helps to seal joins between separate parts and prevent leaking of fluids and gases. [rubber/silicone]

Gasket
Prevents leakage between two or more objects by creating a seal while under compression. [Metal, Cork, Rubber, Graphite]

Bevel Gear
Connects shafts whose axes lie at an angle to each other [Steel]

Allen Key
Tightens or loosens bolts and screws with hexagonal socket. [Steel/Stainless Steel]

Pulley Wheel
Transmits energy and motion by redirecting tension. Used with a belt for timing in an engine. [Plastic, Wood, Metal]

Ball Race
Allow the balls within the ball bearings to glide while generating little or no friction. [Hardened Steel]

V-Belt
Transmits mechanical power efficiently between different parts of a machine by pulleys. [Rubber with fibre reinforcement]

G-Clamp

Spur Gear
Transfers motion and power from one shaft to another in a mechanical setup. [Steel/Brass/Plastic]

Metric Die
A tool used to cut threads on the outside (male) of a rod or pipe. [High Speed Steel]

Metric Tap
A tool used to cut threads on the inside (female) surface of a hole or nut. [High Speed Steel]

Hexagonal Nut
Used for fastening bolts and screws. [Stainless Steel]

Flexible Coupling
Transmits torque from one shaft to another that have a small amount of misalignment. [Stainless Steel]

Yorkshire Fitting
A pre-soldered plumbing fitting, joins copper pipework for water, oil and gas systems. [Copper]

Die Holder
For fitting and turning dies when cutting or shaping materials, often used for cutting and threading metal shafts. [Cast Steel]

Ball Nose Cutter
Milling cutter with a rounded end. Can machine 3D contoured shapes into materials. [High Speed Steel]

Flange
Connects pipes with each other, to valves and fittings. [Stainless Steel]

Machine Reamer
Widens the size of a pre-existing hole in metal by a small amount to leave smooth sides - removing any burrs or rough edges. [High Speed Steel]

Compression Fitting
For low-pressure applications, connects copper pipe without the use of welding. [Brass]

Tap Wrench
Turns taps or other small tools, such as hand reamers and screw extractors. [Steel]

Push Fitting
To make pipe connections without having to solder or use clamps, unions, or glue. [PVC]

Grub Screw
Used as a locking device to secure components to a shaft [Stainless Steel]

R Clip
Used to secure the ends of round shafts and secure pins in place. [Stainless Steel]

Rack and Pinion
Converts rotational motion into linear motion and is commonly used in steering systems of automobiles. [Steel]

Stainless Steel

Motor
