Type 2 Diabetes (maintenance medication)

Glipizide Frequency

IR: 30 minutes before first meal

ER: take with first meal, DO NOT CRUSH OR CHEW

Glipizide ADE

• Dizziness (avoid driving)

• Diarrhea

• Gas

• Nerviousness

Glipizide MD’s

• Allergic reaction (SOB, facial swelling)

• Low Blood Glucose Episode

  • shaking, fast heartbeat, sweating

• Vision Changes

Pioglitazone Indication

Type 2 Diabetes (maintenace)

Pioglitazone ADE

• Muscle pain

• headache

• weight gain

• allergic reaction (hives, facial swelling)

• vision changes

• Low Blood Glucose Risk

  • shaking

  • fast heartbeat

• Painful or bloody urination

• Severe Joint pain

Metformin Indication

Metformin SIG

• take with meals

• do not chew/crush tablets

Metformin ADE

• Stomach pain

• heart burn

• Diarrhea, Nausea and Vomiting

• Gas

• Headache

Metformin MD’s

• Rapid heartbeat

• shortness of breath

• Low Blood Glucose: excessive sweating and hunger

• Allergic reaction: hives, facial swelling

Levothyroxine Indication

• Hypothyroidism

• Myxedema Coma

• TSH Suppression

Levothyroxine SIG

• take on EMPTY STOMACH 30-60 minutes before breakfast

• SEPARATE from:

  • iron

  • calcium

  • antacids

BY FOUR HOURS

• take with food to minimize GI upset

• do not chew or crush

• Nausea and Vomiting

• Weight gain

• increased appetite

• restlnessness

Prednisone MD’s

• excessive thirst/hunger

• Severe headache and weight gain in the face

• abnormal or raid heart beat

• allergic reaction

Metronidazole Indication

Infection

Metronidazole Sig

• DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL OH MY FUCKING GOD

• take with food to avoid upset stomach

• finish the whole course of treatment even if feeling better

Bacterial infection

Levofloxacin Efficacy

if taking with meals must take 1 hour before or 2 hours after meal

• finish entire course of the medication do not stop early

• Nausea

• Constipation

• Headache

• Dizziness (avoid coordinated activities)

• May cause photosensitivity – wear sunscreen and avoid direct sun while taking
