Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
Backflow of acidic gastric contents through the lower esophageal sphincter.
Hiatal Hernia
Defect in diaphragm where a portion of stomach protrudes into thorax.
Peptic Ulcer Disease (PUD)
Ulcers in gastric or duodenal areas often associated with H. pylori or NSAID use.
Crohn's Disease
A type of inflammatory bowel disease affecting any part of the GI tract, characterized by transmural inflammation and skip lesions.
Ulcerative Colitis
A type of inflammatory bowel disease primarily affecting the rectum and colon with continuous lesions.
Appendicitis
Inflammation of the appendix characterized by RLQ pain and fever.
Diverticulosis
Outpouching of the colon wall that is asymptomatic until inflamed.
Hepatitis A
Viral infection transmitted via fecal-oral route, characterized by abrupt onset and self-limiting nature.
Cirrhosis
Irreversible end-stage liver disease leading to fibrosis and various complications.
Portal Hypertension
Increased pressure in the portal venous system due to liver disease.
Cholecystitis
Inflammation of the gallbladder often due to gallstones.
Pancreatitis
Inflammation of the pancreas, can be acute or chronic, often caused by alcohol abuse or gallstones.
Increased Intracranial Pressure (ICP)
Elevated pressure inside the skull, can be caused by tumors or hemorrhage.
Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS)
A scale to assess consciousness and responsiveness based on eye, verbal, and motor responses.
Stroke
A sudden interruption of blood supply to the brain, can be ischemic or hemorrhagic.
Meningitis
Inflammation of the protective membranes covering the brain and spinal cord, often caused by an infection.
Seizure Disorders
Neurological conditions characterized by abnormal electrical activity in the brain.
Myasthenia Gravis
Autoimmune disorder characterized by weakness of skeletal muscles due to antibodies against acetylcholine receptors.
Osteoporosis
A condition marked by decreased bone density, increasing fracture risk.
Celiac Disease
An autoimmune disorder triggered by gluten leading to intestinal damage and malabsorption.
Neurogenic Shock
A condition characterized by loss of sympathetic tone leading to hypotension and bradycardia.
Anorexia Nervosa
An eating disorder characterized by food restriction and intense fear of gaining weight.
Bulimia Nervosa
An eating disorder characterized by binge-eating followed by purging behaviors.
