Scrum
A lightweight framework that helps people, teams, and organizations generate value through adaptive solutions for complex problems.
Scrum Master
The individual responsible for establishing Scrum as defined in the Scrum Guide, helping everyone understand Scrum theory and practice.
Scrum Team
The fundamental unit of Scrum, composed of a Scrum Master, a Product Owner, and Developers.
Product Owner
The individual accountable for maximizing the value of the product resulting from the work of the Scrum Team.
Developers
Members of the Scrum Team committed to creating any aspect of a usable Increment each Sprint.
Transparency
The state of work and process visibility necessary for effective inspection and adaptation.
Inspection
The act of examining the Scrum artifacts and progress towards goals to detect undesired variances or problems.
Adaptation
The process of adjusting any aspects of a process to minimize deviation from acceptable limits as soon as possible.
Sprint
A fixed-length event of one month or less during which a selection of work is turned into an Increment of value.
Sprint Planning
The event that initiates the Sprint by laying out the work to be performed.
Daily Scrum
A 15-minute time-boxed event for the Developers to inspect progress toward the Sprint Goal and adapt the Sprint Backlog.
Sprint Review
An event at the end of the Sprint to inspect the outcome and determine any future adaptations.
Sprint Retrospective
An event where the Scrum Team reflects on the past Sprint to identify improvements in quality and effectiveness.
Product Backlog
An emergent, ordered list of what is needed to improve the product, serving as the single source of work for the Scrum Team.
Product Goal
A future state of the product that provides a target for the Scrum Team to plan against.
Sprint Backlog
The set of Product Backlog items selected for the Sprint along with a plan for delivering the Increment.
Increment
A concrete stepping stone toward the Product Goal, each Increment is additive to all prior Increments.
Definition of Done
A formal description of the state of the Increment when it meets the quality measures required for the product.
Empiricism
The theory that states knowledge comes from experience and making decisions based on observations.
Lean Thinking
A methodology that reduces waste and focuses on the essentials.
Commitment
One of the five Scrum values, emphasizing the dedication to achieving goals and supporting each other.
Focus
One of the five Scrum values, encouraging the Scrum Team's concentration on the Sprint work.
Openness
One of the five Scrum values that promotes transparency regarding work and challenges.
Respect
One of the five Scrum values that acknowledges the capabilities and independence of Scrum Team members.
Courage
One of the five Scrum values that empowers members to address tough problems and make the right decisions.
Cross-Functional Team
A team composed of professionals with all the necessary skills to create value each Sprint.
Self-Managing Team
A team that internally decides who does what, when, and how without external direction.
Stakeholder Collaboration
Engagement with stakeholders to ensure their needs and perspectives are considered in the Scrum process.
Timebox
A predetermined period during which an event or activity must occur, enhancing focus and productivity.
Empirical Process Control
A process control mechanism based on transparency, inspection, and adaptation.
Velocity
A measure of how much work a Scrum Team can accomplish in a Sprint.
Burn Down Chart
A graphical representation showing the amount of work completed versus the amount of work remaining.
Definition of Ready
A clear and shared understanding of what it means for Product Backlog items to be ready for selection in a Sprint.
Retrospective Actions
Identified improvements from the Sprint Retrospective that are prioritized for implementation in future Sprints.
Product Backlog Refinement
The ongoing process of breaking down and further defining Product Backlog items.
