ATP synthesis
The process through which our bodies produce the energy required for vital functions.
Aerobic cellular respiration
The process of producing ATP through the oxidation of glucose when oxygen is available.
Lactic acid fermentation
The pathway used by cells to produce ATP via the oxidation of glucose when oxygen availability is low.
Electron transport chain
A metabolic process where oxygen consumption increases during exercise, resulting in heavy breathing.
Respirometry
A technique used to measure the consumption of oxygen.
Lactic acidosis
A condition caused by the accumulation of lactic acid in situations with low oxygen for prolonged periods of time.
Blood doping
A method used to boost aerobic respiration by increasing oxygen availability, thereby increasing energy production and athletic performance.
Glucose
A sugar that is consumed more quickly during exercise and oxidized to produce energy for the body.
